For anyone who lives in Jersey:
Is it me, or are the timings of the new traffic lights outside the tunnel causing a lot of jams? In light to medium traffic, there are now jams where there weren't any before.

I totally agree; it seems like when one set is green the other is nearly always red creating a backlog of traffic through the tunnel. I really don't see the point of them to be honest; surely it would be so much easier to install a pedestrian system on the existing lights? But that's Jersey for you I guess.

Hey, yeah I remember you (how could I forget?). Good to see you're blogging too -- nice blog also.
Anyway, yeah I was wondering the same thing. If they wanted the high visibility lights and a pedestrian crossing, they could have just pulled out the existing lights and put new ones in the same place rather than adding a further two lights in addition to the existing three (I think) .
I've always hated it when two sets of lights are that close together. Sometimes you're going too fast to stop at the first set but too slow to get through the second set, meaning that you need to hard brake after the first set in order to avoid going through a red, and stop before the second set. Particularly a problem when it's pouring as it has been recently. Sometimes it just catches me off guard when I remember there's a second set of lights at all.
To be honest the whole tunnel system is a little weird. For example, the traffic lights just immediately after the roundabout exit to the tunnel. When they go red, it causes a massive backlog of traffic onto the roundabout itself which is never a good thing. Traffic on the roundabout seems to confuse other drivers and it slows the whole junction to a stop.
